Was the Work Item Detail View removed overnight?

We were notified by several users in our organization that the detail view for work items is no longer available, and they are only able to view the work item search with the split screen view.

I can not find any roadmap item or forum post regarding this being removed. Any ideas?

It looks like, early 2026, Atlassian has replaced the classic detail view in Jira's global search with a new, forced "Preview Panel" and split-screen list view. Unfortunately the Detailed View was deprecated November 2025 onwards.

Is your image an example of what they can see now or what they can no longer see?

Exactly what steps are the users going through to try to get the view that is no longer available? What screen are they starting on? What items are they clicking?

The image is what they can no longer see.

Previously, they'd be able to go into the issue search with a JQL query and show the image above, OR the work item view with the split screen (I believe the work item view was a beta feature you could toggle in your preferences). Now it defaults to the split screen work item view.

Did you pull that image from the same system the users are using?

Your post tags indicate you are using the Jira Cloud system, but the image you shared is not from a Jira Cloud system. That image is from a Jira Data Center system.

So can you clarify if this concerns a Jira Cloud (software-as-a-service) system or a Jira Data Center system? Can you also provide a screen image of what your users are seeing?
