Ranking Work Items from multiple projects

Question

Hi all

My Board filter pulls in work items from a number of different projects and I have no issues with stack ranking different work items (I am the Space Owner and Project Admin)

I have handed the Project over to a colleague and have given them Admin access, but they are saying they have issues with re-ordering the backlog for some work items.

The Board filter for our project uses Order by Rank ASC. Checking the other Projects their Board filters use Order by Created DESC.

Would this be the reason why this is happening for my colleague? I am trying to troubleshoot for them

Hey David,

My understanding is that if you have a board with multiple projects on it, if you reorder tickets in the same project on that board, then it will reorder those same tickets in relationship to each other on their single project board.

However, if they are not able to reorder the tickets on the single project board because the board does not use ORDER BY Rank, then that might indeed be the problem. I would update the single project board to ORDER BY Rank at least temporarily and see if that allows them to reorder on the multi-project board.

When the single project board is updated with ORDER BY Rank, but sure to test reordering on that board - move one up above another, then you can move it back down, to be sure they have that permission.

Hey there, I think it might be related to the permissions issue:

AFIAK, for a user to rank issues on a board, they must have:

Edit Issue permission on all issues they want to rank (across all projects included in the board filter).

Schedule Issues permission (sometimes required for time-based ranking).

Browse Projects permission for all projects on the board.

How other boards' filters order the results should not have any impact to the user's ability to reorder the issues in your board if your board's filter uses ORDER BY Rank.

Can you provide details about what problem the user is encountering?

In order for a user to be able to Rank issues they must have the Schedule Issues and Edit issues permissions in all the projects that are within the scope of the board filter. Does the user have the requisite permissions in all the projects within the scope of the filter?
