Jira Automation convert subtask to task retain parent epic

Hi Team,

I have been trying to use Jira automation to convert subtasks to tasks and retain the parent epic. 

The reason is that at the end of a sprint, we want to convert any subtasks to tasks that aren't completed. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For a question like this, context is important for the community to help.  Please post the following:

• what type of project is this (e.g., company-managed, team-managed, etc.)
• an image of your complete automation rule in a single image for continuity
• images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches
• an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
• explain what is not working as expected and why you believe that to be the case.

Next, a disclaimer: I generally recommend against changing work item types with automation rules.  The reason is lots of things can be different between the types...which is why Jira has a Move function in the UX to guide the person through the change, asking questions as needed.  But rules cannot stop processing to ask questions, and so all contingincies must be predicted in advance to handle in the rule.  And so, use caution with such rules.  With that out of the way...

 

Subtasks have an parent work item, such as a Story, and not a parent Epic.  To which Epic do you want the converted Tasks linking?

 

Next, rather than trying to edit the work item type field directly, I recommend using the Send Web Request action to call the REST API endpoint for Bulk Move Issues.  That one can specifically handle moving from one work item type to another.  If you want to try that, here are some references to help:
