Updating Status of Blocked ticket when the Blocking ticket is resolved

Hello!  I have a project that contains upstream tickets that get linked to downstream tickets in other projects.  I want to build an automation where resolving a ticket in a downstream project changes the status of the upstream ticket that it is blocking.  

 

Here are examples of my tickets:

• UPSTREAM-442:  The ticket I want automatically updated when the downstream ticket changes
• DOWNSTREAM-999:  Blocks UPSTREAM-442

 

I was trying to nest For loops, but Jira won't let me.  Is there a way to do what I want to do?  Thank you for your help!

In that case the rule is being triggered by the blocking issue's status change. A few changes to the rule would be needed because your issues are in different projects.

Additionally the rule I provided there doesn't take into consideration the the points raised by @Bill Sheboy to consider what you want done if an issue is blocked by multiple other issues.
