Automatically associating and Epic to Parent following trigger

We have been trying to automate epic creation for our design team based on fields in a parent which we did get to work but the issue is that that once the epic is created via the trigger it seems we cannot automatically link it back to the parent it was created from. 

Can anyone help confirm whether it is possible to auto link back to the parent or not? Seems like it should considering we used the parent (roadmap item) to create the child epic.

What have you tried in your Automation Rule to create the association between the Epic and the parent issue?

According to this 2020 post, you need to set the "parent link" field.

Note there is a plan to replace use of the "parent link" field with the "parent" field in the future as per this article.
