How can I enable browser desktop notifications?

Brian Sandler

I would like to have desktop notifications for activity on Jira Cloud and am looking for a solution that is directly supported by Atlassian. The old Jira for Mac application used to have desktop notifications, but now that it is retired in favor of the web version I am looking for the same functionality in the web version.

I have seen this post here, but cannot seem to find an Atlassian supported solution.

Hi @Brian Sandler ,

you can try this plugin https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1218696/push-desktop-notifications-for-jira?tab=overview&hosting=cloud

it seems expensive btw I didn't find any other solution.

Hope this helps,

Fabio

Thanks! That's the behavior I'm looking for.

It's a basic feature that Jira actually had on the Mac desktop app, but appears to have forgotten about in the web version. My fingers are crossed some Atlassian product manager or engineer sees this and adds it soon. It should be super easy, here's the documentation and it contains examples in JavaScript.

We all hope that this feature will be implemented in the next future. Please mark my answer as accepted so that this thread can be considered closed.

Any updates on this - is this being implemented?

Hi guys. Seriously, is there any chance to roll out this feature? Btw, you have this in Trello from ages, why not in Jira Software? Thank you.

Hey @Fabio Racobaldo _Catworkx_ could you get an update about this request? Thank you.

How on earth is this not a standard feature?

I shouldn't have to clutter my email inbox with Jira and Confluence updates intead of just having browser notifications.

This is obvious.

Email notifications from Jira can be quite noisy. The notifications icon in the top right corner of Jira is much easier to deal with. If a system notification could take place when a new notification rolls in, that would be amazing.

Hello,

If you want to enable browser notification for Jira, our add-on might be the best solution for you, it works with several browsers, portal customers can receive notifications, and has a simple configuration.

for more details, you can view the article.

Also, if you have some questions regarding the application, please get in touch with us using our service desk.

Best regards,

I am here too wondering exactly the same thing.

The "Accepted Answer" is not an answer, it is a paid, 3rd party workaround (kudos to the devs for filling the gaping hole). We already pay for Jira and this is a basic feature.

Mobile notifications are handy, but aren't most of us working on the web version most of the time (I would think). Seems amazing this was overlooked when they sunset the Mac app.

There seems to be also a free version in the marketplace.
But instead of using plugins. This should be a default feature.

I've found a workaround that gets the job done for me:

I've bookmarked https://team.atlassian.com/notifications.

It might be best to integrate Jira with Microsoft Teams

According to my testing, this page doesn't generate browser/desktop notifications either.

Rob Bl

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting it generates notifications. I just leave that page open in a pinned tab, and can return to it as needed.

I hope that unlike the SEVENTEEN AND A HALF YEARS it took them to resolve opening external links in separate tabs, let's hope something like desktop notifications can be resolved in a swift decade.

It's mid 2024 and we still don't have this feature...
