During migration testing we have found
- a number of workflow validations on our server instance that won't migrate to cloud (mostly rules using 3rd party apps).
- implementing equivalent workflow validation rules in Jira Cloud is difficult.
Our MOVE Yoda suggested we consider implementing more complex logic via Automation instead of Workflow Validations. i.e. if the user transitions an issue but field data is not complete (or not valid), the automation rule would add a comment to the issue explaining the problem, and send the issue back to the previous status.
This approach cannot be used for Create transitions (new issues), but seems like it would be possible in other situations. However it seems a strange way to solve the issue.
Has anyone out there tried this approach?
