Edit automation to show post template in description before the issue is posted/saved

Question

Hi, I initially set up an automation rule in Jira that would automatically populate the issue's description (with a template to guide the poster) when an issue is created, but I was running into problems wherein people's content was getting overwritten by the template.

I want to edit the automation so that I get the following result:

1. when people create an issue, the template is shown in the description box BEFORE they create the post.

On Cloud you cannot do that. The best thing you can do right now is to update the Description  of the Description field in your field configuration. Each field has a description where you can give instructions to the users. Yes it is not a pre-filled template but it is better than nothing.

What you are trying to do won't work. The automation is triggered after the user clicks on create so it will be always be overwritten.

What you need is a scripting plugin where you can put the default values on the description field in the create screen. There are a lot options for server, but I can't find one for cloud.

Automation rule is usually applied to post-filling, so when you create it, you cannot see the preset template. After the creation is completed, the original input information will be overwritten by the template.
