How to automate creating a new version after a new version is released?

Hello Atlassian Community,

 

I wanted to know if there is a way to use Jira Automation to create a new version after a new version is released.

Currently, my org has automation that releases a version at a specific time on a specific day. I'm hoping to have a new version created after the previous version is released.

So the path would look like this ->

At 2PM PST every Thursay, the current version is released. -> Once that version is released, a new version is automatically created.

Our version names are incremented every week by 1. For example, the current version is 230. The next version will be 231.

Yes, you could use an automation for Jira (A4J) rule to do this.  Something like:

• trigger: version released
• action: create new version

You may want more steps if you have other things to do, like assign issues, notify people, etc.

Take a look at the smart values and text or math functions if you need to auto-increment your version name/value.
