Creating a multilevel bulleted list in Jira Description using automation

I am trying to use Automation to create a subtask and fill in the Description automatically. 

The desired text should appear like this: 

 

• Group By ME001, ME107, ME006, ME009, ME040, ME162A 
  (12-27-19) new audit point for all submitters - exclude all versionrank of -1

  • The min of version rank per grouping should be 1

  • If version rank 1 and other records from that grouping come from the same filelogID

    • and version rank 1 and those records have ALL open or ALL close segments, version rank 1 should be the record with max rawreckey

    • and version rank 1 and those records have both open and close segments, version rank 1 should be the record with the close segment

 

I'm trying to figure out what text to put in the Automation rule description field to create the three layers of bullets. 

In the old style, you would just put * for first level, ** for 2nd level, *** for 3rd level. That does not work. 

If you put in this: 

* Group By ME001, ME107, ME006, ME009, ME040, ME162A  new audit point for all submitters - exclude all versionrank of -1
** The min of version rank per grouping should be 1
** If version rank 1 and other records from that grouping come from the same filelogID
*** and version rank 1 and those records have ALL open or ALL close segments, version rank 1 should be the record with max rawreckey

 

You get this: 

Audit points:

• Group By ME001, ME107, ME006, ME009, ME040, ME162A for all submitters except MCD and Anthem(12-27-19) new audit point for all submitters - exclude all versionrank of -1
  ** The min of version rank per grouping should be 1
  ** If version rank 1 and other records from that grouping come from the same filelogID
  *** and version rank 1 and those records have ALL open or ALL close segments, version rank 1 should be the record with max rawreckey
  *** and version rank 1 and those records have both open and close segments, version rank 1 should be the record with the close segment

 

Markdown instructions say use * for bullets and use tab to indent. But I don't know how to enter a tab using markdown in the automation field so that it will active the level 2 or 3 bullet  and I haven't been able to find it on the web. 

Can anyone help me? You'll be my hero.

Hi @Kathy Hart 

It appears the end-of-line character impacts the markup.  I noticed the same thing when trying to use macros/panels in formatting.

Please try to end your lines with a shift-enter in the description field as this will just be a newline.  This example worked for me:

Revised on {{now.jiraDate}}

* A top level item
** Here is a lower level item
** Here is another
*** And here is lower still for an item
*** And another
** And wrapping up now
* And done done done
