Let’s rewind for a second.

Think about your very first day using Jira, Confluence, or any Atlassian tool.

Was it intuitive? Overwhelming? Exciting? Confusing?
Did someone guide you or were you dropped into a board with 200 issues and told “good luck”?

I’m genuinely curious how others experienced that first contact.

For many of us, Atlassian tools become second nature over time. We forget what it felt like to:

not understand workflows

wonder why a field is mandatory

get lost in permissions

or try to figure out where something “lives”

And yet, that first experience shapes how teams adopt the platform long-term.

So I’d love to hear:

What was your first impression?

What confused you the most?

What helped you the most?

If you’re an admin now what would you do differently for new users?

Sometimes improving adoption doesn’t start with new features. It starts with remembering what it felt like on day one.

Looking forward to your stories. :)

What was your first impression?

After IT studies, I started my career in the Service Desk field. On my very first days, I was introduced to Jira. I had never had any experience with any ticketing system before, so everything was new and a bit confusing 🙂

What confused you the most?

The hardest part was understanding all the scheme relationships — how issue type schemes, workflow schemes, permission schemes, and notification schemes all connect together. It didn't fully click for me until I went through the ACP-120 course.

What helped you the most?

It didn't take long to get used to Jira's GUI. At the time, we didn't have a dedicated Jira administrator, so I started exploring the system on my own after work because I found it genuinely interesting. I brought what I learned back to work, and before I knew it, I wasn't just a Service Desk Specialist — I also started configuring and maintaining our company's Jira instance. The ACP-120 certification course was a game changer. I gained so much knowledge while preparing for that exam.

If you're an admin now, what would you do differently for new users?

I'd make sure every new user has someone to guide them from day one — something I didn't have. And I'd strongly recommend the ACP-120 certification to anyone serious about understanding Jira administration. It connects all the dots.

My experience working with only Jira Cloud :D

I personally realized that I had a rather narrow understanding of Jira’s functionality and Atlassian as a whole 🙂

My first impression was how impressively feature-rich Atlassian is and how many useful tools it offers, even though not all of them were immediately clear to me. The Jira and Confluence courses were very helpful, as well as the support from colleagues.

I’m still at the stage of learning and figuring out the value of each tool and feature.

I love this question, so i want to talk about my experience🥰
I landed my first job as an Atlassian Specialist on June 2025 (not so long ago!) and I didn't know anything about Atlassian, it was my first time hear about this word😂.
So I began as an intern to learn about this new world of tools and I never looked back!
I was so scared, but my team and all the documentation helped me master the tools.
Now I am Atlassian Certified (ACP-420 and ACP-620), but I still have a long way to go and I can't wait!
I'm very happy to be part of this community and I'm proud of my journey!❤️
