Strangest Jira use case that actually worked?

Hey,
We once used Jira in a car repair shop - tracked repair jobs, parts inventory, and even mechanics’ schedules. Not what it was built for, but somehow it worked.

What’s the weirdest way you’ve used Jira or Confluence? Did it solve the problem, or just add more chaos?

Curious to hear how far others have stretched the tools.

Hi, @Oleksii Melnyk! 👋

That’s such a creative use of Jira - running a car repair shop with repair jobs, parts inventory, and mechanics’ scheduling is a real out‑of‑the‑box case!

One equally interesting real-world example I’ve seen: an engineering manufacturer used Jira and JSM to track not just software tasks, but end‑to‑end production workflows -from quoting and procurement to manufacturing and QA approval. They built multi‑level issue types and used automation + dashboards to monitor progress across departments.

What made it stand out:

  • Assets was used to track physical components, tools, and even the availability of specific machines.

  • The entire process - quoting, procurement, production, testing, packaging, and shipping - was tracked in Jira.

  • JSM queues helped teams like design, purchasing, and QA handle internal requests with clear SLAs and priorities.

  • Forms collected technical specs and custom order info from clients before production started.

  • Integration with Confluence allowed teams to link production orders with safety documents, test protocols, and compliance requirements.

  • Even post-production testing and packaging were managed in Jira, helping the team track everything from quote to shipment in one place.

It's a great example of using Jira to manage projects and keep everything running smoothly across engineering, manufacturing, and logistics.
