Throwback Thursday: what was your school lunch routine? #TBT

It's Thursday!

I know it is summer! But the other day, I was contemplating what I should write about in my future #TBT and this topic came to mind so here it goes :)

When I was an exchange student in Arizona, my senior year in high school back in the good ol' 1987-88, it was a rush home to be first for the microwave to heat up the frozen burrito from Tina 🌯

Soooo, what was your school lunch routine back in the day?🤠

Let’s make it a great Thursday!

For Elementary school, if we had school lunch, we had punch cards.  It was get your punch, grab a tray, walk through the line, eat and then go out for recess.

If you brought your own lunch, and wanted a carton of milk, it was the same style of punch card, just a different color.

After lunch it, was outside to either play on the giant snowbank in the winter, or kickball/baseball in the fall/spring.

I've used to buy these every couple of days from the shop next to the school. They were like 10 cents at that time. Poza_139-600x600.jpg

Growing up in India, my school lunch was packed by my mom every single day. She'd whip up roti-chili chicken, kati-rolls, Maggi (India's version of ramen!) loaded with veggies, and honestly, it was the highlight of my school day. My BFF and I had a little tradition of swapping lunches sometimes — because someone else's tiffin always tastes better, right? 😄

But once a month? Oh, that was canteen day. Not because the food was anything special, but because buying from the school canteen meant getting posters or stickers of the one and only Hrithik Roshan 😍 — Bollywood's ultimate heartthrob. And let's be real, he still is. Some things never change! 💃✨

Love this one @Kristján Geir Mathiesen :)

My routine changed over the years. Early on, my mum almost always had some leftovers from the day before waiting in the fridge, so lunch was whatever great thing we had eaten yesterday, round two.

Later it turned into a quick late lunch, very typical German: some good bread and whatever was in the kitchen, since everybody was already off at work by then.

Looking back, that is probably exactly why I still appreciate the whole family actually sitting down together at the table. You do not really value it until it becomes the exception.

In elementary school, I brought my lunch almost every day—sandwich of some sort with fruit or chips—and bought a small carton of white or chocolate milk. I would buy lunch once a month or so, usually on pizza day.

I always took a packed lunch to school. It generally consisted of 3 things: a sandwich, juice (a can in elementary school and juicebox later) plus a cookie or some other "dessert". Even in high school where most of my classmates ate at the cafeteria, my friends and I would find some remote corner of the school to eat our lunches and hang out.
