Throwback Thursday: tell us some fishing stories #TBT

It's Thursday!
giphy
Couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine took my son and I ice fishing. This was the first time we had gone ice fishing but our friend has gone many times and has all the gear. The ice was nice and thick. My friend had a tent. I was amazed to see the reflection of the light through the ice in the dark tent. Way cool! We got 7 trouts.

In my childhood, there was a pond near my home, at that time we enjoyed fishing.

When I was a child, my dad took me fishing just once... after that, he said that it was the worst idea in his life :) The case is that as a child I was more interested in playing badminton, ball games, or other things like these that I took with me, so with my friends, we were so noisy (the was a company of parents and kids who went with us) that our parents couldn't catch anything... For them it was a tragedy, for us (kids), it was great fun :) I still remember how we went boating on the river... it was nice time :)

My favorite fishing trip was with my dad when I was a Teenager. As a teenage girl, the only good thing about fishing was being in the sun to catch some rays. I thought fishing was so boring!  We would go out on the lake, sit in the boat, and my dad could fish for hours!  I thought fishing was boring!

Not this particular day!  We were on vacation in Tuttle Creek, KS.  As fast as my dad could bait my hook (I am a girl, I don't do worms), I  would snag a bite and reel it in.  This happened over and over! Now mind you, fishing was boring, but catching a fish was awesome!

My poor dad spent his day baiting my hook and removing my fish! I don't know if he was ever able to drop his own line.  I do remember it was not relaxing for him, but he was so excited for me!!

I can't remember how many fish, or what kind, we caught that day but we had fun! Dad said he was not bringing me again because he didn't get the chance to sit back and enjoy his time fishing.  However, he loved the fact that I kids was having so much fun.

My dad has been gone for a year now and I would give anything for one more lazy, boring day of fishing with him.  Even if I didn't catch a single fish!

Thank you Dad for the memories.  I hope you are fishing in heaven and having the time of your life.  I miss you and I love you.

I've been fishing twice.

The first time was on the yearly Scouts summer camp where we were taken out in a small fishing boat, I spent the whole time seasick and leaning over the side.

The second time was on a friend's stag weekend where we were taken out in a small fishing boat, I spent the whole time seasick and leaning over the side.  The highlight was when someone else was sick whilst standing up facing into the wind and it went straight back into his face!

I was at scout camp in my early teens and figured I might as well go fishing by myself and figure it out.  It wasn't something that I normally would do on my own, but the timing was right.

I borrowed a pole, dug up some worms and off I went.  After casting the line, I got a bite...  "Here we go!"

After reeling in the fish, I realized that I'd completely lost interest in fishing as the 3 inch sunfish at the end of the line basically was the sign that fishing was not in the cards.  I took out the hook, put it back in the water, and headed back to camp.

That was the first and last time I went fishing by myself.

Now if I want fish, it's ordering Fish & Chips off the menu.

Oh wow, I may surprise people, but I have had many fishing experiences. When I was a kid (I think until 13 years of age) I spent every summer in our village house in the middle of the country and in a very wild mountain region.

No hot water, no phone, fire when it's cold, and baths in the river (which was more or less daily because I don't have issues with cold water). So fishing was a big part of our summer experience - a bunch of kids with their long wooden fishing rods (handmade from 2 m wooden sticks), some bread as bait, and a bucket to fill with water. Well, and eventually, the fish.

The river was very clean and full of fish, so we rarely experienced any lack of catch. However, I grew up as a kid who loved saving and taking care of animals, so fishing was no longer an option (despite my skillset).

Lovely walk down memory lane; thank you @Kristján Geir Mathiesen :)

I'm actually becoming a master at sending all those emails pretending I'm the CEO.  It actually surprises me how many people will respond when I say "Hi, employee, this is your CEO!  Don't tell anybody, but I really need your help, could you send all the employee contact information to my private email. I'd really appreciate it, as I can't call you directly as I'm in a very important meeting.  Oh, and could you do that within the next 5 minutes.  It's really important!".

Oh wait a minute, I read the topic wrong, this is fishing stories, not phishing stories...  So sorry.

Back to your previously scheduled program.

Seven trouts, a glowing tent – that sounds fantastic. I have neither fishing experience nor a story to tell. The only thing I could catch there would be a cold :D

@Dan Breyen last time I had one of those I turned to the CEO who was sitting two seats over in the same meeting and showed him the message, he was all for going to a 'who called me' website and sending back a list of all the phone numbers listed as scammers.

Wow, very cool! I fished somewhat often as a kid, but it's not really my "thing." Thankfully, I have an outdoorsy brother-in-law to do those things with my own kids now. My 10 year old can't wait to fish with her uncle next week in TN! 🎣

My dad is obsessed with fishing 🎣 (would definitely approve this post)
When I was younger, we used to go together a lot. I remember one time we were not in our usual spot, I hooked something quite big (I believe it was carp or pike). I almost got it out but unfortunately, it unhooked just near shore and got away 😞

I didn't quite understand fishing when I was younger - being away from home, PC and all the things I could do at home. Nowadays, it would definitely be nice to go out in the woods, near some lake, and have some peace and quiet (disconnected from everything) while waiting for fish to bite 😄

Oooooo, that's cool, @Kristján Geir Mathiesen !  I've never been ice fishing but I once caught a 32 lb amber jack off the Florida Keys.  Right after that, the sharks came around and took everyone else's fishies so I got lucky. 🐟🎣

Hello

I've never gone fishing, and in fact, it's an activity I don't enjoy. It must be because I find it a bit boring. Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, but it's an activity I don't find enjoyable.

Regards

I have been fishing twice, both times in college with my boyfriend and his brother. I caught 1 fish. It was a small-mouth bass, but it was large-mouth bass season (or the other way around), and we had to throw it back. This was enough fishing to last me a lifetime, I guess.

I have only been fishing a couple of times in my life, but now that I am in Montana, I would love to try out the ice fishing!

I never fished in my life, so I could only tell you about I nearly got "phished", these scams are getting harder and harder to detect nowadays. 🎣

My school days when I used to go fishing with my dad.  We’d wake up early, pack some snacks, and spend hours by the water. I was more excited about the stories he told than the fish we caught! Good times.

Fresh water fishing is the most common one I have done.

The latest chance I had was with my co-workers (Adaptavist). We had a off-road retreat and managed to go fishing near the campsite we were staying at.
