Throwback Thursday: fun clothes from the past? #TBT

It's Thursday!

giphy

Man, I grew up in the 70's and back then it was all about patching the clothes to make them last longer. I think I will let this picture do all the talking. Pretty wicked patches now that I think about it!

Soooo, what memories do you have of clothes from the past?

Let’s make it a great Thursday!

I had a pair of green, black and orange tartan trousers.

I had a luminous green t-shirt

I was 29

I wore them together

By my own choice

I would do so again, but I think I may have aged out of the age range where I could do so without growing my beard longer.

Here in the Balkans, you would usually wear the same clothes that people 20+ years older than you also wore 😅

I also vaguely remember having a pair of denim dungarees/overalls as a kid 😄

I don't remember them that vividly anymore and unfortunately don't have a photo, but I'm pretty sure they were a thing! 😂

Too Cool @Kristján Geir Mathiesen I just had patches of old torn jeans that were my patches.

In High School, I did have the white 'Miami Vice' linen suit jacket with white pants. ( I was no Don Johnson). It went great with the white (and a color) collared vertical striped shirt.

I too was a child of the 60's and 70's. I well remember a favorite jean jacket that wore so thin we couldn't patch the elbows so I cut the sleeves above the elbows so I could still wear it. I learned to sew as a youngster using both needle and thread as well as an old Singer treadle sewing machine. We also loved to use iron on patches. No pictures to share but plenty of fond memories in my head.

Another great topic @Kristján Geir Mathiesen

No patches in evidence here, but my Grandma made these overalls for tiny me - quite a few of my clothes and toys were made from offcuts of grown-up things she was making, or "upcycled" before that was a word.
Once things were worn past patching, they were either cut down to be kid size clothes, or cut up for quilts. I still have one she made on my guest room bed.

I am from 90s so no hard memories like this apart from wearing same dress as my brother as well as wearing bigger size than mine so that it could last for years. This topic is great!!

@Anne Saunders your comment brought back memories of my grandmother sewing little quilts from used fabrics for our doll babies. Mine was yellow fabric swatches and my sister's was blue. We loved those little quilts!

Another great topic @Kristján Geir Mathiesen. My fashion choice was always my striped Osh Kosh overalls when I was a kid. And like others here, the iron-on patches were a necessary accessory when the knees started to get holes.

Also grew up in the 70's and didn't get my first pair of blue jeans until I was in the 7th grade. And then just one pair. We work slacks or trousers mostly of polyester. Think dress pants

@Kristján Geir Mathiesen those patches are legit works of art. Mine were nowhere near that stylish.

My big one was a jeans vest lined with white fluffy sheep-like material. I had seen it in some American movie, teenagers wearing exactly that, and I decided on the spot that this was who I needed to be. I have no idea which movie it was anymore, but the vest I remember perfectly.

Reading @Natalie Beiler and @Tomislav Tobijas here, it seems denim was the one thing that connected all of us across countries and decades. Different sleeves, same fabric.

Cheers, Martin
