Throwback Thursday: favorite keyboard shortcut? #TBT

It's Thursday!

giphy

I mean, the command palette (or the old dot shortcut beefed up) is the ultimate power keyboard shortcut. If you’re a Mac user, press command + K or if you’re a Windows user, press Ctrl + K to open the command palette. That is for sure the best.

I use E a lot in Confluence to edit pages.

Soooo, what is your favorite Atlassian, or any other, keyboard shortcut?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

On Jira, "c" is my favorite shortcut for creating issue.

Windows user here! ALT+TAB to shift between windows is my all day every day!

In Confluence it is the same as @Kristján Geir Mathiesen E to edit!

Ctrl+K definitely does magic. I haven't found the UI to be annoying enough where the shortcuts seem intuitive. What am I missing out on?

Mostly CTL+C, CTRL+X and CTRL+V for me. I really don't use shortcuts in Jira or Confluence much and get annoyed by the Create screen popping up when I am trying to use the C for something else.

Same as @John Funk!

Well, I have one shortcut that I use all the time - command + shift + 4 to take custom screenshots or pieces of screenshots (especially when @Fun Man Andy does something social media-worthy on a call 🫣)

And I still enjoy E for editing a Confluence page, but I am careful with using any others because some of them do not make sense for me (and thus never come to my mind naturally 🤭 )

Yeah, @Teodora V _Fun Inc_  I agree with not remembering too many shortcuts. I seem to only have a few on my "speed dial" in my brain, hahaha

Hi @Kristján Geir Mathiesen

Fun topic!  I agree with Andy on ALT-TAB for window switching, and using Control-F (Find) for software development, page searches, etc.  Yes, and...

It took me a long time to stop using the old WordStar commands that were universal in different vendor products for block selection, and copy-paste, etc.  Given the number of software tools I use across different operating systems, I no longer invest the time to memorize them all (even though right-click context menus slow me down :^)

Kind regards,
Bill

Does anyone use M to comment?

It works both in Confluence and Jira. I should add M to my speed dial...

I use B daily in Confluence to create blog posts as we're mostly 'pulling'/copying content from the forum to our internal KB.

Also, I was bothered by dash "-" and wanted to use "—" (looked nicer hah), so I learned Alt code for it > Alt + 0151 on Windows. It's my favourite at the moment 😅

My favorite for a long time was Ctrl+z to undo, but then they came up with Ctrl+y to redo, and that saved me so much time when I needed to do the same thing over and over in multiple places.

I notice that in Confluence, however, this only redoes what you undid—no multiple undo and no redo the last action multiple times, which makes me sad. 😞

I would say it's the print-screen key. Helps to take screenshots when providing explanations.

In the new Logitech keyboard that is replaced with a screenshot key.

Hi

For me it is impossible to live without them "Ctrl + C", "Ctrl + V" & "Ctrl + Z"

They are essential and the amount of time they save me

I am highly addicted to shortcuts "/" for macros and "e" for edit in Confluence "C" in Jira.  I mostly use shortcuts to look blazing fast to my co-workers. :-)

One thing that is annoying is that there is difference in MS Office depending if it is in Swedish or English. Ctrl+F is either Bold OR Find depending on the locale. In theory there is a 50/50 chance of getting it right but it is more 90/10 getting it wrong

@Staffan Redelius I remember going to a neighbor's house in The Netherlands in 1997 to help them with a Word document. (I had only been in the country for a couple of months.) I was so proficient with my keyboard shortcuts that, for 20 minutes, I never noticed that the interface was in Dutch. Lucky for me, at that time at least, the shortcuts were the same.
