Good morning, happy Monday, and welcome to another new week Atlassian Community!

Like Button.png

July has been designated as Likes 4 Trees month in the community, and we can affect the planting of 50,000 trees by liking content in the community this month. You can read about all of the details in @Monique vdB's post here

Liking content on the community is an easy process, and reinforces the contributions of community members new and old alike. It's a quick shot of dopamine that can motivate an author or commenter to keep coming back and contributing. You don't even have to subscribe when smashing the like button!

ChatGPT Image Jul 13, 2025, 11_23_03 PM.png

Over the four Mondays in July, I'll be posting a discussion here in The Watercooler that will gather content for community users to come and like, helping us along the journey of planting 50K oxygen producing wonders of nature, which as of this posting we have already planted 22,073!

As you can see in the like meter above, the first post in this series generated 998 likes! Let's see if we can exceed that number in this second post in the series!!

Today's subject is Your Most Likeable Entertainment Art!

"Entertainment Arts" or "Popular Arts" include:

  • Cinema → Film art, visual storytelling

  • Television → Broadcast narrative or episodic storytelling

  • Music → Auditory art and cultural expression

Tell us what your favorite example of any of the above art forms is, and do it with a picture of GIF. It could be a picture of a movie or play poster, album cover or scene from a TV show. If it's your favorite, then it's likeable and we'll all be here to show you the love with our likes and comments.

Have a great week, I can't wait to post another discussion next Monday and see how many more trees have been planted by then!

Here are my favorite of each genre!

Movie - Star Wars Episode IV - The Empire Strikes Back

The absolute best movie in the entire Star Wars canon. Have seen this at least 200 times.

Music - Nirvana Unplugged in New York.

I was in High School when this was filmed and dubbed a cassette tape from the audio off of the VCR, before they released this as an album. The conversations the band had between songs was hilarious and a window in to how they operated. @Sajit Nair _Trundl_ - agree?

I just finished watching Andor then rewatched Rogue One. I hope any of the future cinematic Star Wars movies can bring back greatness and not robotic-horse charges across star destroyers.

Andor was an amazing success at restoring the story-telling to the Star Wars Universe - and another amazing score that I have loaded on my YouTube music playlist.

Here are my favorites (it was really hard to choose only one again!):

Movie - Pride and Prejudice

Television → The Office

I’ve lost track of how many The Office memes and GIFs I've sent to my team at this point. No matter the situation - there's always a Michael Scott reaction that fits way too well 😄

The Office gif. We zoom in on Steve Carell as Michael Scott, who grins as he gives us finger guns.

Another favorite → The Big Bang Theory

No matter how long the day’s been, there's something comforting about sinking into an episode of The Big Bang Theory. It’s funny, familiar, and just the right amount of ridiculous. The elevator may not work, but the jokes always do ✨

Television → Friends

From “Pivot!” to “How you doin’?”, this show gave us enough quotes to last a lifetime. Honestly, I use Joey’s lines more than I'd like to admit in actual meetings 😄

Music → The Lord of the Rings soundtrack

While others blast pop hits to focus, I love to work to the sound of Mordor. Howard Shore was my top artist last year on Spotify - I was a top 1% listener. If it doesn’t sound like an epic quest across Middle-earth, I'm not working hard enough.

@Brita Moorus all great selections! I am a big fan of film scores, and the LOTR and Hobbit scores are on my playlists. I especially love listening to scores that are in the order of the music in the film (I never understood why some are not) and 'watching' the movie through the music.

Although I grew up in the Friends era, I never got in to the show. I don't know why - maybe I just thought Seinfeld was funnier and had my share of comedy? TBBT is after my years of watching TV, but whenever a re-run comes on I will watch the entire episode - the writing was amazing. And The Office is probably the most bingeable show ever written - and I can name each of the characters and which of my co-workers they are!

Pride and Prejudice - great movie, even greater book. One of the top 100 of all time. I can't even count how many times I have read it - but I have never seen the movie.

Thanks for sharing!

Movie - Hot Fuzz

I remember the first time watching this movie was on a portable DVD player while camping with my family. It was then, and still now, one of the funniest movies I've ever watched. I can quote it up-down, head-to-toe and it never gets old.

Television - The Wire.

Hands down the best TV show ever. The Sopranos holds a close second in my list, but something about the characters and story line of The Wire holds a very special place in my heart.

Music - The Grateful Dead

This is the most obvious choice. Besides Dub music from Jamaica, I uphold the opinion that The Grateful Dead are the most influential group for the "sound of music" (another great movie). Through the innovations they created and applied to their tours, and the pervasive influence of their community, it's a band that has not faded away. The boys forever changed the landscape of music, and I'm a proud Dead Head for it.

I have the likeness of this tiger tatted on my sleeve.

While I am a bigger fan of the Keith & Donna era of keys & vocals, one cannot mention the Dead without mentioning Pig Pen, just look at that pure americana swagger-

Haaaa The Princess Bride is part of my childhood. I've watched it so many times as child and as adult and every time with a big smile all along the movie.

In France we called this kind of movies "films de capes et d'épées" (movies with capes and swords). It's so clever and joyful in the way it uses the codes of this genre. I love it.

Thanks @carolyn french for this great reminder ^^

You're very welcome @carolyn french and after a little search I learned that the english name of this genre is swashbuckler movies.

Mask of Zorro is great too !

The last movie of this genre I saw was "Le comte de Montecristo" less action but so beautiful ! (But as it's a french movie I don't know if it was exported in other countries)

@Trudy Claspill the Abyss was amazing! It was cool to hear James Cameron speak about how they pulled it off at Team '23. I remember being blown away when I saw it in the theater in 1989/1990. I've only seen it once since, but now need to check where it may be streaming.

I've been thinking more about the music. If I go with songs, instead of an album, I would include:

  • The Eagles - Seven Bridges Road
  • Queen - You're My Best Friend
  • Paul McCartney and Wings - Mull of Kintyre
  • Kansas - Song for America
  • The Bee Gees - Be Who You Are
  • ELO - The Jungle

I could go on for days, but I should probably get some work done. ☺️

Here are my favorites (even if it's really difficult to pick one for each) :

Movie : La vità è bella (Life is beautiful)

If possible in original version with subtitles because Roberto Benigni is inimitable

La_vita_e_bella.png

But I am also a fan of Sci-Fi and fantastic movies

TV : Community

Because it's fun, because it's absurd and because they had the idea of the darkest timeline

Community.png

But I love too The Office and TBBT

Music : My trinity is Muse, Radiohead and SOAD (sorry I couldn't choose)

I have been thinking about this one a bit, as we've had the absolute best and sunniest spring and start of summer over here in Belgium for as long as I can remember. As a result, I am spending a lot - really, a lot - of time outside in the garden and around the BBQ.

So not a lot going on in my free time on screens or indoors. But - playing a tiny bit of guitar every now and then myself, though on a very intermediate level - I do have my guitar heroes I like to tune into in the background every now and then.

Maybe entirely by accident, @carolyn french's reference to The Princess Bride automagically sparked my huge enthusiasm for Mark Knopfler - who happened to be responsible for the soundtrack of that movie ...
