Happy Feel Good Friday, Atlassian Community!
This Sunday happens to be National Rollercoaster Day in the U.S. So, my question for you today is - Do rollercoasters make you feel good or not so much? 🤢
For the rollercoaster junkies, any favorite amusement parks or rides? If you don't love rollercoasters, did you ever? Do you like other rides?
I, for one, use to love spinning rides and can't seem to stomach them anymore. I do, however, LOVE rollercoasters and it's been so much fun sharing this love with my teenager! We went to Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH, back in June and had a blast!
I love a (fairly gentle) roller coaster, but the ones in the Disney parks are as thrilling as I need to get. None of the standing, over-vert, backward looping stuff for me! 😅
Great topic @Amanda Barber!
I loved rollercoasters when I was younger and used to make a point of dragging my Dad on the biggest, scariest ones that we could find. Now I'm old(er) I find them harder to stomach, but thanks to the circle of life my daughter drags me on them anyway. 🤣
I remember the exact moment that it changed for me too: there was a ride called Oblivion at Alton Towers in the UK - it was one of those wide rather than long roller coasters where you're all sat next to each other. It slowly pulled you up to the top, held you over a vertical drop, then dropped you into a big black hole in the ground. It was the first ride to scare the stuffing out of me and I've never really enjoyed them since!
Haha, love the circle of life reference - I guess I'm lucky I can stomach rollercoasters now, since my husband also can't!
I love a good roller coaster. One of my favorites is Cannibal at Lagoon in Farmington Utah. Starts with an inverted drop to really get the blood pumping. Just remember to secure your cell phone before riding. I forgot to zip up my pocket this summer and sent my phone for a ride. Thank goodness for Apple Care. :)
Haha, love it @Shaun Prinster! We went to Cedar Point this summer for the first time and several rides actually have metal detectors and they don't allow any phones past that point!
Amusement parks are a blast! Especially thematic ones 😃
I really like the rides, and I'm quite impressed and curious about how these things work 🧐 I can just repost this in case someone hasn't seen it 😅 I've got two more schematics 'in the works' for different rides but I haven't finished them (yet!)
As for rollercoasters, they are really fun, but as I do not like heights 🥶 and most of them work on that basis, I prefer just looking at them from down below and checking how people engineered them, hah
Similar to you, @Amanda Barber , my vertigo can’t handle the spinny ones anymore, but I still love the coasters with big drops! Cedar Point is great!
