Happy Fun Friday, Atlassian Community!
Have you ever been caught by surprise with kids? I certainly have. In fact, I’m starting to think it’s my daughter’s personal mission to keep me sharp and always thinking on my feet 😄
Just the other night — right before bedtime, of course, it’s the most perfect time to remember something — she suddenly remembered she had an exam. And not just any exam: she had to create a Roblox game with multiple levels of difficulty… during the weekend.
Cue panic!.. When your child’s exam involves building a multi-level Roblox game, the pressure is real 😅.
So, instead of spiraling, I decided to bring in some structure - I opened Jira and quickly set up a board to:
And what can I say, using Jira made her exam prep less chaotic and more structured, visual, and rewarding. It turned her project into a mini weekend adventure — and honestly, it was fun for me too!
So, my question is, what’s your best “last-minute rescue” story? Are you a natural planner, or do you thrive in the chaos?
Have a fun Friday and a great weekend!
@Daria Kulikova_GitProtect_io - HAHAHA I remember those days oh so well. It would be 9:00 am and one of our boys would say something like, oh yeah, the Science Fair is tomorrow and it's half our grade, and I need help building something!!
Or about the same timing, and the other would say, Oh, tomorrow is country day in history class and I said Mom would make a cake for it.
And just so you know, parenting never ends.
"Are you a natural planner, or do you thrive in the chaos?"
Why not both? 🤣
Love this post! I've noticed that when deadlines are looming, the constraint of time helps planners plan - you focus on what you absolutely need to get the job done.
When it comes to travel, I'm a planner, but, for many things, I prefer to call it being spontaneous. 😀
I had to look up what Roblox is, @Daria Kulikova_GitProtect_io, so I don't think I would have been much help with the "make sure nothing important was forgotten" step. Although, maybe getting my child to explain how to use Roblox to create a game would be helpful preparation for the exam.
HAHA great post @Daria Kulikova_GitProtect_io!
I won't claim to be a natural planner, but I play many strategy games where I'm pretty good at thinking on my feet and trying to think multiple steps ahead.
Additionally, I won't say that I "thrive" in chaos, but with both a 7 and 3 year old I have learned to survive in it.
I haven't had to make any rescues with school projects (yet) but I have had to "drop everything" and get to an appointment we forgot about and almost missed.
Great thinking, @Daria Kulikova_GitProtect_io (and thanks for taking on Feel Good Friday!)
I'm a natural planner, but having kids has certainly pushed me out of that at times. Having tweens and teens means they have more independence and expectations around doing their own planning and school work...which sometimes means we need to run to the store for a poster board the night before a project is due! :) Luckily, I'm very crafty and we've always had many materials on-hand at home, so that has saved the day many times!
@Daria Kulikova_GitProtect_io Feel Good Friday AND Miscellaneous Monday? June really IS your month!
I am a natural planner. Anyone else surprised by that?
My wife is a natural worrier. So we really compliment one another.
The greatest joy I get is when I see one of my older children (I don't hold the younger ones as accountable - yet) plan something out and complete it without needing prompting or reminders.
If my kids are forced to inherit all of my less desirable DNA, at least they should benefit from some of the good character traits!
