Gatekeeping access behind more and more clicks is not great UX/UI. I appreciate the updates but please make everything immediately accessible! It was really nice to see all my clients, to-do lists, and filters all at once! Ease of access should be about eliminating doors, not creating more of them!

Hi all! Lex here from the Trello Product Management team! I am just getting back from some personal time off but just wanted to give y'all a heads up going to be spending as much time as possible going through more of the comments on this post and following up to each one.
I know it can be frustrating to share a piece of feedback and not get a direct response to your feedback/comment and also the structure of these community threads makes it hard to find previous responses that myself or another member of the Trello team shared previously. I know it hard to see sometimes but I can assure you that we are absolutely doing our best to listen to the feedback coming from all our Trello users (35,000+ pieces of feedback good, bad, general ideas, etc) over the last few months shared through many different channels (support, Community, in-product feedback), etc. and continue to improve based our honest best assessment of what is best for the greatest portion of our users.

Hi @Sonia ! Replying to your feedback comment below:
"Yes, being able to pin the board switcher to the left is great. Thank you.
Now we only need the ability to do the same with the Work Spaces/Tables again! That's what our org is missing the most."
Thank you for the feedback, glad you are enjoying the new pinned board switcher option. Could you elaborate on doing the same with the workspace/tables again? Workspace views are included in the per workspace view of the board switcher (see gif above). On these tabs you can see your just a list of your boards/views in that particular workspace - just like the old left hand nav. And one cool/potentially helpful thing is that we will also remember what tab in the board switcher you were on for future times you interact with the board switcher so you do not have to keep going from "All" to a particular workspace if you primarily spend time in a single workspace.

Hi @Joe Widi ! Replying to your previous feedback below:
"Two days ago my beta preview ended and I finally lost my ability to go back to the old layout. So now I've been force fed the crippled 'new and improved' UI and I hate it, like almost everyone else here. I've been hoping for of a sensible reaction to all the posts that explain in great detail all that is wrong with this UI. So eight weeks later the only thing you generously gave us back is the board switcher, albeit with an extra click to pin and unpin it because the main goal of this update seems to make us go through extra clicks.
But unlike advertising companies you don't get money from these extra clicks, you only draw ire from longtime users. And you chase away potential new users or users that - like me - have contemplated changing to the paid version. Which I think would be an incredible stupid thing to do unless there is a possibility to revert to the old, slick, functional card design you destroyed for no discernible reason.
Shooting yourself in the foot is one thing, but applying a dirty band aid afterwards and pretending everything is fine now definitely isn't going to help much."
Thank you for your feedback! I am glad the new pinned board switcher is helpful, even though it takes a click to enable it. We had to make a decision on whether to make it the default or have the popup board switcher as the default. We did not take the decision lightly but after actually talking to some users, reviewing all the positive and negative user feedback that comes through many channels (35,000+ pieces of feedback), and looking usage data we decided to make the popover the default while giving the pin as an options. The truth of it is that some users prefer the always there left hand nav for board navigation that takes less clicks (especially true of those who switch boards a lot) while others prefer the more hidden popover that allows them to focus on the specific board they are looking at.
On the cardback changes, if possible please let me know what particular parts of the new cardback are not working for you and you think we can improve on (sorry if i missed it in a previous comment of yours in this thread). Our team is at this very moment looking through all feedback on the new cardback and testing additional improvements (for example, making it easier to find automations/powerups, reducing the number of clicks to access them, etc) with users.

Hi @Joe Travers! Replying to your feedback from earlier below:
"SO GLAD to have the Board Switcher Pane back as an option!
However, am I missing a way to sort the my Starred Boards into the order I need them in? Having them in a specific order is also essential."
Thank you for the feedback, glad the new dock option for the board switcher is working for you! We are currently working on an improvement to allow re-ordering of starred boards in each of the sections of the board switcher (not just the "starred board" section on the all tabs like we have today). If there is any more context you can provide on additional/specific improvements we can make to the sorting of starred boards, please let me know!
" Part of the recent "improvement" is that cards no longer have buttons on them as they used to. This is a massive hindrance as we use automation buttons extensively to move cards between boards.
Can we please get back the functionality we are paying a handsome annual subsciption for?"

Thank you for your feedback! We realize how important these buttons are for your workflow and are currently exploring ways to restore ease of access.

Hi @Felipe Bona! Replying to your feedback/comment from below:
"TERRIBLE UPDATE!
This idea of leaving the card floating is terrible, as it limits navigation usability.
If you don't want to return to the original layout, at least let us choose! Add an option to choose which layout we want to use."
-------
Thank you for your feedback! Can you elaborate on what you mean by "card floating" is terrible? The cardback (when youi click on it) has always been floating popup. Are yo referring to the floating island at the bottom of the cardback that allows you to open up comments, etc?
If so, we are currently evaluating all the user feedback about the cardback and exploring solutions (designs, testing alternative with users, etc). For example, a easier access to automations, etc. Let me know if there are any particular improvements you would suggest to the new cardback.
@Alexandros Mathopoulos I'm happy you're starting to address our feedback. I feel like the biggest question you could answer as this point is why Atlassian has been pushing back so hard when you have 35,000+ pieces of feedback and 7 pages on this thread of mostly negative comments. If we wanted to use Jira, we would. You're talking about a massive amount of your users that have used TRELLO for years. Paying customers at that. Your update has hindered performance, and it feels like you're trying to gaslight everyone into thinking it's so much better when it's clearly not. Everything that's been updated has made it less efficient and that's a fact.
You can easily see the majority of upset users want the old style back. If your company refuses to swallow it's pride and admit that the update did more damage than good, then I feel like you could at least address these glaring issues:
Create an option to remove the annoying floating nav menu. It blocks the horizontal scroll bar. I don't care about the Inbox or Planner, will never use them, and like the majority of people, I pin my board switcher to the left where it belongs.
Card buttons need to be back on the cards when you open them. What a ridiculous idea to hide it behind another menu. They're called Card Buttons for a reason.
Give the option to put the comments back on the bottom of the card as opposed to the right. I realize I may be in the minority with this opinion, but I always have the comments hidden now because I hate them on the right. I didn't mind having to scroll down to see them.
Is it possible to be given the option for Workspace views open up into another side nav instead of a new window (kind of like how calendar, or inbox unfolds a new column) so I can view some of my filtered to-do lists at the same time as some of my boards?

Hi @Bruno Mariante! Replying to your feedback/comment from below:
"way past a month and I still can’t pin board switcher"
-------
The ability to pin the board switcher is now available (launched to all users on July 24th). We apologize for it taking a bit of time, we wanted to make sure we got it right and without bugs.

Hi @Meredith Boylan! Replying to your feedback/comment from below:
"The new version has not yet rolled out for me, but I have the option to try it out as a beta. I did that just now, and wow, I am not happy that I am going to be forced to switch to this!
One thing that is going to a problem for me -- maybe a deal-breaker -- is the background color of the cardback. In my current version (the old version for many now), the color is a very light grey. In the beta version that I just tried, the color is white. I just cannot handle that with my old eyes. I might be in the minority with that, but I can't be the only one.
I don't understand why they changed that. Do people really not like that light grey? It's a very soft color, very easy on the eyes.
I depend so much on Trello, for personal use. This has me pretty upset, actually! "
-------
Sorry Meredith, out intention is not to make things harder to read! Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing? Trello has a dark/light mode which determines whether backgrounds across the app are a dark grey background with light text or a white background with light text. Our new cardback respects this setting just like it did in the old Trello so if you are in dark mode it should be grey. Below is a video of how you switch from light mode to dark mode (from the profile icon in the top right hand corner):

There has been a lot feedback in this blog post around the new cardback (separated from navigating between your boards). We deeply deeply appreciate yalls feedback on the new cardback. For many users the simplicity of the new cardback is loved but for others which heavily relied on comments/automations, etc. we have heard that there is to much friction. The team is hard at work reviewing all the feedback (in this community and through many other channels) and designing/testing many improvements. For example, some of the top areas have gotten feedback that we are exploring improvements and testing ideas with users include:
- Automation/Power up buttons being harder to access in the new cardback due to them being under a second click
- The width of the comments panel on the cardback and potentially even the placement of comment in general
The irony being you are going to end up putting all these things back where they were previous to this disastrous update.
You need to address the crux of the problem, the floating navigation bar at bottom of the screen. These problems ALL flow from the implementation of this. It needs to go, plain and simple.
Please have a look, the points mentioned there pretty much follow what most other people are asking.
While I do understand this has been a "big update", it seems like a lot of ressources were wasted there.
As different as people work, you could have added the new functionalities to be "activated" for interested users and left the old design as is.
Instead now you say "are looking into how to provide more functionality", funfact, this functionality was already there.
Thanks for answering to these points. I had a look around and Fluent makes a decent looking Project where chances are slim that they destroy what made Trello great.
In addition to my previous comment, could you please do something to the "resizing" for smaller displays?
Currently the comments have a fixed width on the right side, making the actual content almost disappear. As well as the few remaining buttons on the card disappear in parts and require a scroll from left to right. Both things where much better before when the comments could be underneath the card, as no battle for space was required.
Please see the screenshots to highlight my issues.
The new card display doesn't work for us either. I am aware this may be preference of a few of us only, but wanted to let Atlassian know.
We use the checklist a lot, it is the base of our team work. With the former view, we were able to add comments on the Description box and also see the the whole checklist. It was very clear and avoided missing information or missing assigned tasks (checklist items are assigned to different people in one same card). We could see the whole card at once.
Now, with the new card display, two things are happening:
- Only the first 2 items of the checklist shows and then we need to scroll down to see the rest.
- If we write content on the Description box, if the content is large, then the checklist view disappears altogether and the only way to notice that there is a checklist is to scroll down.
This has created problems as people now don't know either that there is a checklist or they miss more easily tasks.
I am attaching a screenshot of the view as sample.
@Alexandros Mathopoulos Please don't even try to puff up you returning pinable board switcher as anything to be proud of. You just reverted stupid change. You don't deserve praise for that. If you swallowed your pride and actually returned this project back to a drawing board, where it obviously belongs, said sorry and than started collecting the feedback, that would be something else.
Cards are still tiny, checklist are in horrible place, floating menus are still in the way, comments on the right are still terrible and the buttons (that I personally don't use) are still missing from the cards. If you think anything else than reverting this mess is appropriate you are deluded.
Even McDonalds brought the snack wrap back after everyone was requesting it. Follow the same model. Give the majority of your users (with some being paid users) what they want. You have enough feedback to see this update was a legendary flop! Pretty sure this thread is just going to keep growing with negative comments until you do the right thing. 😉
