What does the push number mean and is there somewhere to review what files will be changed?

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
Occasionally, after merging branches I'll get an unexpectedly high number.
I'm nearly certain this would overwrite files that shouldn't be overwritten if I push it. Why doesn't it prompt me with merge conflicts? What does the number mean? Is there somewhere to review what files will change?
