Unable to push to new remote branch when name is automaticalluy populated

I just upgraded to 3.3.4 and have found that when I try to push to a new branch I get an error stating that the format of the branch name is incorrect.  If I delete the automatically populated branch name and retype exactly the same name it pushes successfully.  This is different behaviour to the previous version.
