I am trying to install Sourcetree but receive the following issue:

"We tried to load scripts but something went wrong.

Please make sure that your network settings allow you to download scripts from the following domain:

https://aid-frontend.prod.atl-paas.net/atlassian-id/front-end/5.0.449"

Similar questions in this forum have indicated that Sourcetree installation requires internet explorer? Is this mandatory? My organization no longer allows access to IE; any other solution?

I have a Bitbucket cloud account and workspace; but not Bitbucker server. Other threads have indicated only bitbucker server works with logon method; so I am limited to Atlassian logon.

Hi @Nicholas Poulin

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

I wouldn't interpret this as an IE requirement. The message indicates that the login window within Sourcetree failed to load the Atlassian ID scripts from atl-paas.net. This issue is typically caused by a combination of the outdated embedded browser engine and a corporate proxy filtering the domain, rather than a restriction of the browser you are required to use.

The most reliable way to access Bitbucket Cloud is to bypass the interactive Atlassian login and authenticate with Git directly. I recommend using an SSH key because it remains unaffected by recent authentication updates. To set this up, add your key in Personal settings > SSH keys in Bitbucket and clone using the SSH URL. If you prefer to use HTTPS, generate an API token under Atlassian account settings > Security > API tokens. Then, clone using the HTTPS URL and enter your Bitbucket username, using the token as your password.

One thing to note: app passwords used to be the simple solution for this, but they were completely phased out in mid-2026. Now, the only options for Cloud are API tokens or SSH.

Cheers, Martin
