How do I resolve this SSL 507 error?

I am receiving this error when using source tree to pull local repos.

abort: error: _ssl.c:507: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed
fatal: 

I have tried the solution on this page - https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/SOURCETREEKB/Resolving+SSL+Self-Signed+Certificate+Errors 

this only granted me the ability to view the repo through safari.

The os we are using is yosemite.

we were able to get one of our machines up and running with 1.5 but that does not help us much with 2.5.
