🌴 Team'25 Europe is fast approaching... And how! There's only one week left until we see each other again in Barcelona.
I can't wait!
But, if you're like me, events fill you with as much excitement as uncertainty. That's why I've written this article, in the hope that together we can come up with some tips for effective networking.
SPOILER: Team'25 Europe will be my second ever Atlassian Team. Last year I got to meet lots of interesting people!
// What is “good” networking? 👀
It's very subjective, but for me, networking doesn't have to be a business matter. I think it's difficult at events because you're usually representing a company. However, I think that jumping in to talk to someone to sell your solution right away is a rebound effect: you'll probably scare that person away.
Good networking should be multidirectional (the more people who join the conversation, the better), selfless (meeting people for the pleasure of doing so), and assertive (the shark mentality doesn't work).
// My experience 😎
In my experience at events, I've always enjoyed myself more when I haven't expected “anything in return.” That's when the best conversations and the best contacts arise. Because they're sincere, not forced.
What's your experience? How did you like it when someone approached you? How do you usually approach people to get to know them? I'll read your comments! 👀
