Hey everyone!
We are currently migrating from Jira and Bitbucket Data Center to Cloud and honestly it has been quite a journey. The official docs are helpful but they don't really prepare you for the real struggles on the ground.
Wanted to share what actually hurt us and see if others are going through the same thing.
Apps don't behave the same on Cloud
Tools like ScriptRunner, Structure and Xray work great on DC. On Cloud they either have missing features or a completely different pricing model. The compatibility matrix doesn't show the full picture.
ScriptRunner scripts don't just move over
Groovy scripts from DC cannot simply be ported to Forge. You basically have to rewrite your automations from scratch. Most teams don't plan enough time for this and it hurts.
User accounts can silently break
If a user's email doesn't match an Atlassian cloud account, their tickets show as "Former user" after migration - permanently. This is easy to miss and hard to fix later.
Nobody defines the data freeze window early enough
Every plan has a cutover section but the actual change freeze - who approves it, how long it lasts, what is frozen - almost never gets defined until the last minute. This alone can delay your go-live.
Dashboards and reports break after migration
Custom date fields don't always come through correctly in EasyBI. Charts and trend reports that worked fine on DC just stop working on Cloud.
Have you gone through a DC to Cloud migration? What surprised you the most? Would love to hear real experiences from the community so we can all help each other out!
