Data Center End of Support and Community Licenses

We’ve been following the recent announcement about the end of support for Data Center, and we have a couple of questions from a nonprofit perspective:

  • Will there be any changes to the discounts currently offered to nonprofit organizations after this transition? Even with the current 75% discount, the cost may still be unaffordable for many nonprofits, and the impact could be devastating for many organizations
  • Will Atlassian provide any kind of test or evaluation accounts for nonprofit/IGO customers? Due to our security restrictions and the complexity of our environment, we would need to conduct a thorough evaluation before making any decision. However, it’s not easy for us to quickly secure budget for such an evaluation.

I’d be very grateful for any clarification or guidance

Best regards,
Ines

Hey @Ines B_

that's a question I also have.

I run a Confluence Data Center - with about 90 users. Most of the users only rarely use Confluence, since they're volunteers.

With the discount of 75%, we still land at ~150 Euro/month which is a significant cost increase and doesn't rectify our Confluence usage. I'm hoping that Atlassian shows some movement here - otherwise we have a couple of years to find a better suitable option.

Regarding test or evaluation accounts - you can start a Cloud migration trial for the remainder of your Data Center subscription. Check this page for more details.

I'll try to get someone from Atlassian to provide more clearance on this.

Cheers,
Matthias.

Thanks  a lot for the page. Unfortunately it seems it's not for non profits, and the free Cloud Plans have too many limitations for us

  • License eligibility: You need a Commercial or Academic license with 11+ users to be eligible for a Cloud Migration Trial. Starter licenses (10 users or less) and Community licenses are not eligible, but can check out our Free Cloud Plans

I'll post here if I get more information

Ah, that sucks that this is not for Community licenses. Maybe we can also get some movement on that front.

Hi Ines -

My name is Taylor Light, I lead the Atlassian for Nonprofits program at Atlassian. I wanted to jump on this thread to respond to your concerns and give you a transparent update on the Data Center announcement's impact on nonprofit customers.

We understand that the end of DC announcement will be a big change for the nonprofits like yours currently using Atlassian tools. We are committed to minimizing the impact to nonprofit teams while assisting/supporting nonprofit teams to migrate to and get the best out of Atlassian cloud apps and Atlassian's cloud platform. Happy to answer your questions:
  1. We are currently evaluating our discount structure and how it is serving nonprofit customers and addressing their needs. These DC changes are absolutely a consideration. Our goal is always to maximize, to the best of our ability, financial accessibility for nonprofits. Thank you for sharing this input.
  2. You're right that unfortunately Community Licenses are not currently eligible for the cloud migration trial. Our team is able to make exceptions for that - please reach out to us at social-impact-teams@atlassian.com to discuss best next steps for your organization.
    1. We understand for organizations with particularly complex environments that it takes time and a lot of effort to evaluate cloud. To support with this, we have Atlassian Solution Grants that fund 10-25 consulting days with an Atlassian Solution Partner. These can be a great way for organizations to get more hands on support with the upgrade to cloud. You can read about how Mary's Meals went through that transition with a Solution Grant here.

Our team will make sure to share any other relevant updates as soon as we have them for DC customers in this community!

Thank you so much Taylor! I really appreciate this thread. We are in the same boat as others:

Without saying too much and getting in trouble with our Communications team I can say my non-profit employer provides IT services to small healthcare organizations that serve the poor. Every dollar we charge our customers is one less dollar they can use to heal the sick and save lives.

** One can draw a direct line from Atlassian's generous DC community license, to better health outcomes for some of the poorest people in the US. **

It is encouraging to hear this is being evaluated.
