Hello, New-to-Jira community! 👋

Imagine you join a new team. They use Jira, but it’s completely new to you. There's no time for training, and you just dive right in. 🌊

You log in, get assigned to a few tasks, comment on a few work items, and after a tiring day, go home. The next morning you encounter an absolute avalanche of email notifications. It feels like Jira is yelling at you for every single mouse click! 🤯

And you understand that you can miss other important emails from the team, for example.

Before you create a rule to route all Atlassian emails directly to your trash (Pro tip: never do this; you might miss critical updates), let’s look at one option that can save you time.

By default, if you comment on a Jira ticket, Jira automatically adds you as a "Watcher." That means you get an email for every subsequent update anyone else makes.

If a thread gets too noisy and you're no longer involved:

➡️ Look at the top right of the ticket.

➡️ Click the Eye icon (Stop watching) to instantly opt out.

I remember when I first started using Jira, this simple trick would have saved me time... and nerves. :)

What has been your biggest surprise (or frustration) since starting with Jira? Drop your thoughts or funny notification stories below in comments! :)

Happy Tuesday Jira Vibes!
