How to send a created attachment in XLS format via email

Jasneet Singh

Hi everyone,
I’m working with a ConfiForms form and need users to receive an email containing a copy of the submitted form as an attachment.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • I added a field of type File Attachment to my form.

  • I created one IFTTT rule to generate the attachment.

  • I created another IFTTT rule to send an email with that attachment.

The attachment is successfully generated and stored, but when the email is sent, the file is not included. I receive the email, but with no attachment.

Has anyone run into this before?
Am I missing a specific configuration in the email IFTTT or the attachment IFTTT?
Any suggestions or examples would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hi @Jasneet Singh

This behavior usually occurs because the attachment is created by IFTTT after the email sending action is executed, even if the rules appear to be in the correct order. In ConfiForms, the execution of rules is not always sequential; some actions run asynchronously.
That is why the email arrives, but without the file.
Here are the solutions that usually work:
1. Ensure that the IFTTT that generates the attachment is set to “On Created” and “Run as server.”
The file must exist before the email action.
2. Enable the “Include attachments from entry” option in IFTTT Email.
3. Use a different trigger: “On Modified.”
An alternative that works very well:
IFTTT 1 - “On Created” -> creates the attachment.
IFTTT 2 - “On Modified” -> sends the email with the attachment.
4. Test by adding a “Delay.”
Conclusion
Your process is correct, but most likely:
the email is being sent before the attachment is created,
or the email IFTTT is not configured to “pick up” attachments from the record.
By adjusting the above points, the attachment should be included normally.

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate your support.

currently I am using same sender and recipient email. Is it possible to have this functionality without  setting up “Run as Server”

Thanks

It's possible, but there may be some limitations. Here's a clear explanation:
When you use ConfiForms IFTTT actions to create attachments and send emails, the “Run as Server” option ensures that the action executes with full.
You can send the email without “Run as Server” if sender = recipient, but you need to carefully manage the trigger order and possibly add a small delay to ensure the attachment exists before sending.

Take a look at the complete tutorial that creates a file, attaches it to the page/form and sends it via email attachment https://wiki.vertuna.com/spaces/CONFIFORMS/pages/5341879/Creating+a+file+with+calendar+invitation+-+ics+file+in+Confluence+and+sending+it+via+email+with+ConfiForms

I have added a field to introduce a delay. The first IFFT is in the oncreated, and the second is in the on modified.
However, I could not find any option for adding an attachment. Please find the attachment I configured. I followed the same procedure as mentioned for the ICS file, but the attachment is not appearing. I can see in the database that the file has been created in the desired format, but the attachment is not being added.

The screenshots are really something else than the tutorial I have mentioned

Hi Alex,

could you please guide me?

i also have created a hidden field as mentioned in the tutorial. I can see the generated file in the database but it is just not attached to the email.

My requirement is to have XLS format as attachment

First of all, it cannot generate you an XLS file, but the CSV or any other text file is possible.

Second, If you follow the tutorial that I have mentioned you will get exactly what the tutorial says - an ICS file created on the fly and send via email

Hi Alex,

Thanks for reaching out. I also tried to have text file attached.

I went back to the tutorial again and followed every step to generate an ICS file. I am still not receiving any attachment.

Is there anyway you can assist me on this.

I will really appreciate it
