With the introduction of Connections, does this reduce Insights to linked research?

Thinking about the new Connections functionality.

While it absolutely introduces the Opportunity Solution Tree concept, I'm wondering about how Insights would now be used.

If an opportunity is composed of multiple ideas, then wouldn't the need to capture insights be diminished?

or is it that Idea = Opportunity and Insights beef up the idea's validity of something to solve that your user communities really want or need?

My thinking originally is the latter, with insights being duplicative feedback ideas.

@Lisa McCann it really depends on how you approach it. Here's one scenario where different types and insights can work together (that some teams we worked with are using)

  • Something starts as an idea, and the PM keeps adding new insights as they learn more about it, passively, every once in a while.
  • As it firms up it turns out it leads to a bigger opportunity. The opportunity is on the "Later" section of the roadmap. A bunch of ideas are merged into the opportunity, and all insights with it
  • The team then starts to work on exploring different solutions for it. Each of these solutions addresses different insights. The team copies some insights from the opportunity into the solutions.

We see the case where many small things merge into something bigger, which then gets split into multiple smaller things, etc. This process of shaping and changing includes insights.

(We are going to start exploring better solutions for insights soon)
