Make new users contributors rather than creators

We have users who are allowed to join JPD automatically (don't have to be invited), but they are added as users, not contributors. How can we change this?

Check your app access settings in your Admin console (Apps -> App access settings). More than likely it's configured to license a new user as a user (which would equate to a creator). Change this to None.
