Jira Product Discovery Delivery Progress Ignores “To Do” Child Issues When Linked to Epic

We have recently encountered a problem in Jira Product Discovery, specifically related to the Delivery process and Delivery status fields. We have noticed that when an idea is linked to an epic, the child work items that are in the To Do status are not included in the Delivery progress calculation. The number of To Do items is also not reflected correctly in the Delivery status.

For example, we have an epic with 10 child work items:

  • 3 items are set to Done

  • 3 items are set to In Progress

  • 4 items are set to To Do

In Jira Product Discovery, the Delivery progress shown on the linked idea is 50%.

However, when we navigate directly to the epic in Jira Software, the progress is shown as 30%.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue, or is this expected behavior in Jira Product Discovery?

Hi @Can Peskersoy , I'm not able to reproduce this problem.

I wonder if this could be tied to the specific workflow configuration in your space.

To know for sure we'd need to get access to your site and investigate a few things.

Could you please raise a support ticket?

From Jira Product Discovery:

  • From any view > Top-right > Feedback button
  • Select "Get help from the support team"
  • Paste the following text and submit

"Tanguy Crusson from the JPD team asked me to create this support ticket to investigate an issue we're facing with the delivery progress field, as per this community post: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-Product-Discovery-questions/Jira-Product-Discovery-Delivery-Progress-Ignores-To-Do-Child/qaq-p/3172929"

Thanks!

Thanks @Tanguy Crusson , for checking this.

I’ve just created a support ticket via Jira Product Discovery using the text you provided.

Looking forward to your findings. Thanks for your help!

Hi @Can Peskersoy -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

When you learn the root cause and solve this symptom, will you please post the explanation?  That will help the community in case others encounter this.  Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill

Hello!

The issue turned out to be related to status categories, not the statuses themselves. JPD calculates Delivery progress based on status categories (To Do, In Progress, Done), and in our case the “To Do” status was not assigned to any status category.

After assigning the “To Do” status to the To Do status category in Jira Admin > Statuses and refreshing the idea, the Delivery progress and Delivery status were calculated correctly.

I’d also like to point out a confusing behavior we noticed. "To Do” status appears to be assigned to the To Do status category when viewed from Edit Workflow. However, when navigating directly to Jira Admin > Statuses, the status category is actually not set. This inconsistency made it difficult to identify the problem initially.

In any case, thanks to the JPD support team for identifying the root cause and helping to to eliminate it quickly.
