Is there a way to Tshirt size by squad and not just by idea?

We have development teams or squads that specialize in certain skills

An idea will be scoped and will often need engineering resources from multiple squads

When we tshirt size, we need to do that per squad for that Idea

But we can only size for the idea, thus applying a size that is the same for each team that will contribute to that idea, which is not correct and messes up our capacity planning

I want to be able to size by team so for Idea X, its an XS for Squad A, a Medium for Squad B, and a Large for Squad C

Hello,
You could create different fields in your view for each squad, such as Squad A and Squad B. Each squad can have a select option for T-shirt sizing, with weights assigned as follows: S = 1, M = 2, L = 3, and so on. Then, you can add a custom formula to sum the T-shirt size values to calculate the overall effort.

It would end up looking like this:

Hi @Bob and welcome to the Community!

When you talk about capacity planning, you are talking about delivery work. While it absolutely makes sense to think of this when you are elaborating ideas, scheduling the work itself has a better place in Jira than in Jira Product Discovery.

I would personally document imlementation constraints / requirements in a solution design document (or in dedicated fields on an idea in JPD), but take care of the delivery planning in e.g. Plans in Jira.

Once you have the solution for your idea designed, you can start creating work items (epics, stories, tasks, ...) in a regular Jira space that you can then start scheduling with the appropriate team(s).

Hope this helps!
