We are using connections and global fields across multiple projects. Currently, there is a limit of doing this with 20 Jira spaces. As a result, we'd like to condense down some of our Jira spaces.
Questions:
- Based on research, it doesn't seem possible to clone an entire Jira Space. Is there a way to clone/move items in bulk from one space to another? If so, is it possible to keep existing linked data for items that are already connected and keep the multi-selections in place?
- If we need to use CSV files to export/re-import, is there a way to do this while keeping the existing connections in place (and relevant multi-selections and other field data)? Or would we need to import the data and re-connect everything in the new space (and re-do the multi-selections)?
Description Question:
- Is there a way to have your descriptions automatically show up in views? Is the only way to do this to have two versions - one that is included in the item and one that is a short-text field?
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Hello Elyse,
Everything depends if you are talking about the project settings (all the views, the automation rules, the work types etc) or if you are talking about the project data (the ideas and their insights).
You can definitely clone project settings when creating a new project by clicking "reuse an existing space configuration", but it seems irrelevant for what you are trying to do.
Based on what you describe, I think you are looking to migrate project data from one project to another. That's also possible by clicking the "Move" button on any idea.
Now, since it's a bit cumbersome to do it ideas one by one, I suggest you use the search bar at the top of the screen and select "view all work items" . You will arrive on JQL search and there you can select all ideas from the project you want to remove by typing "project = KEY" and then you can click on "bulk change work items", and then "move issues"
In the move process, all global fields will remain including connections, so make sure you have global fields for as much as you can. But I would still advise to move one first, to see if you like the result before going with the bulk. The import/export csv will make you loose all insights, and i think you'll need to redo the field mapping so, clearly not recommending you this one.
It is not possible to have a description automatically showing in views, but you can create an automation rule that copies your description in a short text field (but there is a limit of 255 char and no layout support so i think it might not look great).
