Hi everyone,
I’m trying to set up an automation in Jira Product Discovery that sends a Slack message whenever a new insight is added or updated on an Idea.
The Goal: When a team member adds a highlight/link to the "Insights" tab, I want a Slack message to fire saying: "A new insight was added to [Link to Issue]".
The Problem: I've tried using the "Field value changed" trigger, but "Insights" doesn't consistently appear as a selectable field, or it simply doesn't fire when a new insight is attached via the "Add Insight" button. I also checked for "Issue property updated" but couldn't find a property key that reliably tracks JPD insights.
I tried the following and none seem to work:
1. I tried using the Field value changed trigger for the Insights field, and it was not triggered when I created a new Insight.
2. I tried the Issue Updated trigger, and when I created a new insight, it wasn't triggered.
3. I created a manual trigger and Logged (using the Log action component) the insights field and nothing appeared.
My hunch is that it is not currently possible, and Rovo said it is due to the following:
In Jira Product Discovery, adding an Insight to an idea does not currently fire the “Field value changed” automation trigger for the Insights field. That trigger only reacts to fields that are written to the Jira issue history, and Insights changes are handled a bit differently in JPD and don’t show up as a standard field change.
It is a known limitation mentioned here: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-Product-Discovery-articles/Known-limitations-of-Jira-Product-Discovery/ba-p/2069648
Hope this helps, and sorry if it's not the answer you were hoping for!
Thanks,
Andrea
This would be great if this limitation could be resolved.
+1 for this feature to be added! :)
