Custom Field - Disable Option from selection

simon_b September 29, 2025

In Jira Product Discovery, we created custom fields with the type "Select". I would like to prevent users to select some options because they are deprecated, but not loose historical data of previous ideas.

I can only see a "delete" possibility in the options, am I missing something?

I understand that I could rename the options and put the deprecated ones at the end of the list, but disabling seemed like a better option.

Thanks

Hi @simon_b

As far as I know Jira Product Discovery currently doesn’t have a “disable” option for select field values. The only built-in option is Delete, which removes the value entirely (and that would affect historical data).

Workarounds you can try:

  • Rename and move deprecated options to the bottom of the list (e.g., prefix with “(Deprecated)”). This keeps historical data intact but discourages new use.
  • Color coding: Use the color/highlight feature to visually mark deprecated options.
  • Context-based fields: If the field is used in multiple places, you can create a new field for active options and keep the old one for reference.

Hope this helps!
