In certain Jira Cloud instances, I've encountered "Polaris" link types.
Looks like they're created by and used by Jira Product Discovery.
Question: Anyone know if it's okay to rename the link types from Polaris to Product Discovery, so other Jira admins aren't confused by them?
Related Question: When is it okay to delete these link types?
š Usually reserved system objects are highlighted as such, and can't be modified by admins. Example: The "Approvals" field has "LOCKED" next to it, when navigating the Custom Fields admin page.
p.s. I found a Community article from June 2024 (written by ACC Rachel Wright), that mentions the Polaris link types. Would be nice if this was in Atlassian's official docs.
Hi @Dave Liao , you can delete and rename them - as in it won't break anything - but they will be re-created as-is the next time someone opens a Jira Product Discovery project. We need to do some cleanup here to rename them and see if we can make them locked
In the renaming scenario, does JPD (as an app) overwrite custom name changes for those links in Jira administration and revert to the original Polaris Link Type names (with the Polaris language) in an existing project whenever anyone creates a new JPD project?
Example: We have an active JPD project. I change the link Name from "Polaris datapoint issue link" to "Product discovery work item idea link". I do not change the outward or inward description values.
What happens when:
Someone creates a new JPD project? Are the newly named links reflected as such and respected in both projects? Or by creating a new JPD project are the Polaris links added to instance again, causing duplicative link types with different Link Type Names?
I ask because end users have no idea what Polaris has to do with Atlassian, which means the three Polaris/JPD issue types are frequently misused. Atlassian Support documentation on the ramifications of changing the link type names would be so helpful! Thank you!

hi @Jessica_Hampton in today's set up I believe that the link types will get recreated when you do that, the next time someone opens up a project.
