Bulk Upload Epics Mapping To Ideas on JPD

SATHYA MURTHY KARTHIK

Hello,

I have a list of epics that I need to map to exisitng ideas on the Jira Product Discovery board. 1 idea might have multiple epics that are being link to it.

How do I go about doing this? I do not see a "Key" mapping field in the jira bulk upload. I could only bulk upload the actual ideas not the epics.

Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Hi @SATHYA MURTHY KARTHIK , currently there isn't a separate "bulk upload epics -> ideas" mapping step, so you wouldn't see an "Idea key" in the Jira CSV import. But you can follow the below options:

1) Option 1 - Link existing epics to existing ideas (This is recommended but you have to do it manually)

If your ideas already exist in Jira Product Discovery and the epics already exist in Jira Software, the supported way is to link them from the idea side:

  1. In Jira Product Discovery, open the idea.

  2. On the right-hand side, go to the Delivery tab.

  3. Click Link a Jira work item.

  4. Choose:

    • Jira site

    • Jira project

    • Epic as the work type

    • Then pick the correct epic by key.

  5. Repeat for each epic that should be linked to that idea (1 idea → many epics is supported).

-> You can refer to this doc: Link idea to Jira work item

2) Create epics from ideas in bulk (if the epics have not existed yet)

If you haven’t created the epics yet, you can bulk-create delivery tickets from the ideas list:

  1. Go to a list view in your JPD project.

  2. Select multiple ideas (checkboxes).

  3. Click Create work items.

  4. Choose:

    • Site

    • Jira project

    • Epic as the work type.

  5. JPD will create one epic per idea and link them automatically.

-> This is bulk, but it creates epics; it doesn’t bulk-link existing ones via a key.

I hope everything works out well for you.

Bestest regards,

Peter

Hey,

You could use CSV import for it:

https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-Product-Discovery-articles/Importing-Ideas-to-Jira-Product-Discovery/ba-p/2851671#M2889

In the CSV you will have a column with the keys of Epics and Ideas.

The CSV import, imports or edits work items based on the fact if they exists or not in the space by Key.  If this work item doesn't exist, it will create a new item, if it exists it will link the other work item to it.

In your case, you need the Jira space, and then the epic key, that you already have in the space, and link it to the idea key you want.
