📣 The tree view is now available in early access (Premium only) + updates on hierarchies

Hi all,

Introducing the tree view

Good news! One of the most awaited features in the history of JPD is finally available in early access: the tree view. This view helps you visualise your hierarchy with more levels.

Screenshot 2026-04-01 at 13.45.29.png

Example use cases:

  • Work with opportunity/solution trees
  • Show how product work ladders up to strategic objectives
  • Get a better view of how things connect at different levels to prioritize
  • Get more visual ways to discuss outcome-based roadmaps with stakeholders

Here's a demo:

Current features:

  • Configure n-levels of the hierarchy (max 10)
  • Define filters for all ideas on the view, and for each level of the hierarchy
  • Define fields for each level of the hierarchy
  • Sort based on a field (all levels)

Current limitations that we're working on addressing:

  • You can't reorder ideas manually yet
  • If an idea at a level is connected to multiple ideas of the prior level, it will appear multiple times (vs one card with multiple lines). We're working on it.
  • It only supports one type per level (under considerations)
  • You can't yet connect ideas directly inline from the view (you need to open ideas for that)

To gain access to this feature in early access, see bottom of this post.

Updates on hierarchies

This is part of a larger effort around improving the hierarchies feature. What we're currently working on:

  • The new tree view (this post)
  • Support for one more level of hierarchy in the timeline view

image-20251215-161719.png

  • Support for one more level of hierarchy in the list view
  • Roll-up fields so you can roll-up the value of "effort" from "children" to their "parents"
  • Ability to filter for things like "hide bets that do not have solutions"

Getting access to the tree view

If you'd like access, please drop a comment below!

  • Please explain your use case
  • Tell us your site URL (xyz.atlassian.net)
  • Note: you need to be on the Premium plan or a Premium trial to be able to use this view (it's part of the hierarchy feature).

All we'd ask is for feedback so we can make this feature better (as comments on this post or the in-app Feedback button).

Hope you like it!

As with hierarchies, the team takes "One of the most awaited features in the history of JPD" and puts it behind a paywall. SMH.

Thanks for sharing @Tanguy Crusson ! I'd love to get access to this as I've been setting our projects already as Strategic Pillars > Objectives > Key Results > Opportunities > Solutions and would love to be able to start using both the tree view and timeline view

Hi @Tanguy Crusson I'd love to get access to the Tree View.
Im the Head of Product at Booxi and we already use Hierachy but currently can't build OST. So this would help us visualize it.

Would love to get access to help build OSTs for easing product discussion and prioritization, currently doing everything for OSTs outside of Product Discovery and have been looking forward to streamlining a workflow there.

We would love early access to this! This will give us the ability to see how work/projects ladder up to strategic objectives as well as giving us the ability to view outcome based roadmaps to facilitate discussions with stakeholders.

Hi @Tanguy Crusson

Thanks for the updates and the info on this new feature.  As others are probably asking, I wonder why...

  • Why is what appears to be a basic feature only available an Premium and higher levels?  Certainly the same tree view concept could apply to Standard (or even Free) level without the more advanced hierarchy features.
  • The filtering abilities for JPD views are quite extensive, and in this case they may negatively impact customers because they are not very visible.  That is, one must open each possible filtering control drill-down to see them.  What might be a way to easily see, at a glance, all of the applied filters at once, such as a hover text summary of the filters applied to the view?
  • In my experience with views like this in other tools, a helpful feature is the ability to collapse / expand an entire node in the tree to reduce scrolling around
  • What, if any, performance issues has the team observed with the new view using larger backlogs of work items?

Thanks, and kind regards,
Bill

@Tanguy Crusson

  • We are using OST as a framework, and would love to see how the tree visualisation pans out - a bit of a blocker for us realising the full value of JPD

This is a great feature!

Although, wishing it was available for Standard license types - bummer it is only for Premium only. :(

I saw this today in JPD.  I think having multiple work item types at the same level will be key.

The timeline view news is also sounds interesting.

Hi everyone, if I liked your comment it means you have access. I'll check and do this once a day.

Feel free to leave your feedback here on the experience as you try it out - we'd love to hear what works and doesn't for you to be able to get to your goals with it. Thank you!

It would be awesome to have the option to add Jira work item types as a level.

Thanks for enabling @Tanguy Crusson !

Just a few things from initial impressions playing around with it:

  • Will be great to be able to collapse/expand nodes in the tree so its easier to navigate
  • Searching for a node within the tree would be helpful. I find myself using the simple search by text a lot in the other list views and as trees get larger you would need a quick search
  • Love the ability to apply filters and select fields per level / idea type. Could we do the same for Card Colors? I was trying to apply card colors only to my "Solutions" by ICE Score or Status but since it tries to do. the same for all levels it seems confusing
  • I know you mentioned in your video, but being able to add a new Idea from the chart would be great (and it should automatically add the relevant connections "up the path". I'm not sure about moving cards between branches. That might be a bit dangerous and break things. Might be safer to manage that through Connections

Hi, we'd love to get the early access!

I'm a relatively new PM in a small team. Our company is an Atlassian Platinum partner and we have 2 active products on Atlassian Marketplace. We're basically setting up continuous discovery from the scratch. Opportunity/Solution Trees are my go-to framework, and at the moment it's hard for me to work with them in the way I'd have preferred.

I feel like the inability to create OSTs in JPD prevents us of fully utilizing it in our discovery process and I'd really like to use it more. The tree perspective allows us to organize opportunities better and understand the relationships between them. I've spent the last weeks trying to build a workaround solution with Miro, but obviously adding another tool also adds another layer of complexity.

I'm more than happy to play around with it and provide more feedback!
