Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce the release of two new Focus automation components: Focus area status update posted trigger and Focus fields condition 🎉
With these additions, your teams can automatically send notifications to Slack channels, Microsoft Teams channels, or email whenever a Focus area update is posted. This helps keep stakeholders informed, improves visibility into progress, and keeps teams aligned on strategic priorities.
For example, you could notify a leadership Slack channel when status updates are posted for all Focus areas with a particular owner.
Focus area update notifications are available today for all Focus customers.
To set up your automation, follow these steps:
Ensure you have the Focus User role in Atlassian Administration and the appropriate Jira admin permissions (see the support documentation for details).
Visit the Jira Automation platform to create your automation rule.
Select one of the three notification templates under Strategy to get started quickly.
Configure your rule and authenticate. You must be a member of the selected chat app channel. For Microsoft Teams, support for configuring the action without a webhook URL is coming soon.
Customize your automation by using the Focus area fields condition, adding additional notification actions, or adjusting the message content.
While automations help address the need for channel notifications today, we’re actively working on a native chat notification experience—allowing Focus areas to be directly linked to channels. Stay tuned in the coming quarters for more updates.
If you try this out, we’d love to hear what workflows you’re setting up or what you’d like to see next.
