Removal of features to prompt password reset and suggest changes

Hi admins, we want to let you know about two features in Atlassian Administration we plan to remove in November 2025:

• Prompt reset password

• Suggest changes (was only available in the centralized user management experience)

Both features are only relevant to external users. Who are external users?

Prompt reset password

This feature lets you prompt an external user to reset their password.

This feature was introduced to give you a way to prompt an external user to reset their password since you can’t reset their password directly. This is because you don’t manage their Atlassian account everywhere.

However, the inability to force a password reset and confirm that a user has changed their password means this feature hasn’t been an effective way to secure an external user’s account. Instead, we recommend you contact your external users through email or other channels when you need to ask them to reset their password. You can still suspend their access in the meantime if their account has been compromised.

This change doesn’t affect managed accounts. You can still reset passwords directly for accounts your organization manages because you have full administrative control of their accounts.

Suggest changes

This feature lets you suggest changes to an external user’s details from their profile. It’s only available in the centralized user management experience.

This feature was introduced to give you a way to suggest changes to an external user’s details since you can’t update the account details for an external user directly. This is because you don’t manage their Atlassian account everywhere.

However, due the unenforceable nature of suggestions and the inability to confirm whether a user has adopted your suggestions, we’ve seen low usage of this feature. For this reason, we decided to remove this feature. We recommend you contact your external users through email or other channels instead when you need to suggest changes to their Atlassian account details.

This change doesn’t affect managed accounts. You can still update details for accounts your organization manages because you have full administrative control of their accounts.
