Assign ticket to developer who created a branch for a ticket in GitHub

Has anyone gotten this to work? We tried setting it up in our Automation, but it doesn't assign the ticket properly, I'm assuming because it's having trouble linking the GitHub user to the JIRA user?

it depends on how they are creating the branch. are they creating the branch directly from the jira ticket? or are they creating the branch from their Git Client / Git Command Line?

If they are creating the branch directly from the jira ticket itself, this automation works no problem. but you have to make sure you have the integration setup properly and that there is a repository assigned to this project. 

If they are creating the branch from their Git client. they need to make sure they are referencing the JIRA issue key in the Branch creation.
