Announcing: Support for OpenSearch 3

We will be adding support for OpenSearch 3 to both Confluence and Jira in the current LTS (10.2 and 11.3 respectively). We’ll also be deprecating support for OpenSearch 2 in the current LTS and removing support for OpenSearch 2 in the next Confluence and Jira major versions (11 and 12 respectively). This keeps our products aligned with a fully supported OpenSearch version.

What’s expected

If you’re considering switching from Lucene to OpenSearch on either Confluence or Jira, you might want to hold off until we add support for OpenSearch 3.

We’ve reviewed all apps in the Marketplace and have confirmed they’re compatible with this change. If you’re using an unlisted app with custom OpenSearch queries, there is a small chance you could be impacted by this change.

Timeline

We expect OpenSearch 3 support to become available in H1 of 2026 in the current Confluence and Jira LTS (10.2 and 11.3 respectively).
