I just had to go into the "<>" to make edits -- do you have a full screen editor?

The <> on the toolbar in the Confluence Editor is provided by a user installed add-on, either the most common (and free) Confluence Source Editor or the paid Source Editor for Confluence. Neither provide a full screen option, I am sorry to report.
