Why is "Create from template" button creating a page in the space it was copied ?

Situation: Here are the steps:

1. I created a space and saved it as a blueprint. This space has "Create from template" macro used in a lot of pages.

2. I created a new space based on this blueprint.

3. When I create a page clicking on "Create from template" button, it goes back to the blueprint space to create the new page, which ideally should be created in the current space.

Do you already have a solution for this problem?

Intended Solution: A "create from template" button should create a page in the space it is hosted and not in the space it was originally created in.

Hi @Akriti Malla Have you checked which space is configured in the macro? If you duplicated a bunch of pages from a sample space, my guess is that the macro is still referencing that sample/blueprint space.

The macro automatically updates the space key but it still creates the page in the blueprint space unless I edit the macro in the new space and save it ( even without no changes). In that case it starts creating pages in the current space.

It looks like to me that the macro still carries the context of blueprint space and the context is only updated when macro is edited in the current space.

As mentioned by @Marc -Devoteam- I am looking to find more information on creating dynamic pages.

Do you see some other possible solution? I cannot imagine to make manual changes to a macro. We are talking about spaces with 100s of pages with each page having a macro. Thanks for your revert :)

@Akriti Malla You can update the pages with the Confluence API. I'm not an expert at that, so I won't copy what Claude AI just gave me as I'm not 100% it's correct, but Rovo or another AI should help you use the API.

To avoid these problems in the future, you should avoid creating pages by duplicating existing pages. There is no native out of the box solution for this, so you will need to build something either following the tutorial Marc linked to, or setting up some sophisticated Confluence Automation rules.

Hi @Akriti Malla

For my understanding, you create a space, added pages, with macro's on the pages.

If you copy this space all macros on pages keep their settings, you will not to change them manually

To built a blueprint, see; https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/confluence/blueprints/ this if you are in need of dynamic pages etc.

Thanks, it looks right that the macro is still somehow connected to the blueprint page even though the space key is updated when a new space based on the blueprint is created.
I tried to edit the macro, changed nothing, just opened the macro in edit mode and saved and closed. Then it started creating pages in the current space. Any ideas how to tackle this without having to manually open and edit macros on every new page in a new space? Thanks for your time.

Hi @Akriti Malla

To built a real blueprint, based on a documentation link I shared.

If you just built a space with pages as a template and copy this, the macro's used on pages will retain their original information.
