I've created links to Headings and anchors in another document in the same Confluence space. However, when you click on the link the new page opens a few lines below the anchor/heading you've specified. Why?
Is there also an ability to force links to open in new tabs?
Hello @John Bottomley !
As I understand, anchor links are not redirecting to the header which they point to. Instead, the page ends up focusing two lines under the actual heading.
With this behavior in mind, I tested Anchor Headings in three different browsers:
- Google Chrome Version 83.0.4103.61 (Official Build) (64-bit)
- Apple Safari Version 13.1 (15609.1.20.111.8)
- Mozilla Firefox 76.0.1 (64-bit)
They are all up to date versions of each browser. They all redirected my screen to focus on the correct heading. The quickest one was Chrome. Chrome dropped me instantly at the anchor, whereas the others waited for the page to load and then redirected me to the anchor.
Here is a little more detail on linking for Confluence Cloud:
With this result in mind, I would like to ask you a few questions:
- Which one of the supported browsers are you using?
- Which version of the browser are you using?
- Which Confluence editor are you using, New Editor or Legacy Editor?
You can take a deeper look into supported browsers here:
If you need some guidance on how to differentiate both editors in Confluence, you can have a look their tool bars:
New Editor:
Legacy Editor:
Looking forward to your reply.
Hi Diego_Canto_Rodrigues. Thanks for the informative answer. I'm using the legacy editor & Chrome Version 81.0.4044.138 (Official Build) (64-bit) (the latest at time of writing).
I can't add a screen shot of the Edit link form & resulting place in the document I'm taken to in this reply so could I get your email so I could send you them?
For a heading link 1 example is: FCV tutorial#Thefunctionsfind_tag,set_tag,andreset_tag and for an anchor link 1 example is: FCV tutorial#_Toc373830239. Do they look ok as I have the same problem with both link types.
Thanks, John
