I've just tested this on Confluence 6.7.2 (the server install) and I can add tasks to a blog post. I've also tested this with Confluence Cloud and can also add a task to a page. I do this by entering [] quickly and then typing the text that I want.
What happens when you try [] or insert a task using the editor menu?
