Why an user with site admin permission cannot access admin console directly ?

I created a user (our CFO) with `site admin` permission, and he cannot access Billing when login via  admin.atlassian.com,

The weird thing is that he can do it via the Confluence administration page, following these steps:

  • Open the link https://mycompany.atlassian.net and login.
  • After that, click on the gear icon in the upper right corner.
  • On the left menu, click on "Billing" below Atlassian administration. This will open a new window.
  • Select which product you want, and click "Manage".

Investigation Details: 

Why your CFO can access billing via Confluence but not via admin.atlassian.com:

  • When accessing billing through the Confluence admin page, the link typically routes to the site-specific billing area, which site admins can access.

  • When accessing billing via admin.atlassian.com, the "Billing Preview" and some billing features are restricted to Organization Admins only. Site Admins will encounter errors or lack access to certain billing views. 

 

The issue you are experiencing may be due to the distinction between various admin roles in the Atlassian cloud:

  • Site Admins (even with "site admin" permissions) have limited access to billing when using admin.atlassian.com. They can only access billing for the specific site, not for the entire organization.

  • Organization Admins have the highest level of access and can view and manage billing for the whole organization via admin.atlassian.com.

  • Billing Admins can access the Billing Console, but only if they have the appropriate permissions.

Next Step: 

I further reviewed  and tried to review from the backend and could see only one site admin: Bharath Booshan

  • Could you please share the details of the user experiencing the issue?
  • Additionally, please provide the screenshot from admin.atlassian.com where the user is listed as a Site Admin.  

The above details will help us troubleshoot and identify if the correct permissions are provided to the affected user.
