I am left with compressed content in the middle of the page that cannot be left justified.  I have to revert to an old version making it impossible to edit the page.  This is a new behaviour.  How do I get around it ? Is it a defect.

Worked it out.  Borders can be stretched.

Exactly :)

You can set the entire page's width to Narrow/Wide/Max or you can play with individual elements and stretch them independently - images, tables.

Hi @Justin Wood

Glad you found a great solution!

For anyone else landing here: Confluence Cloud's native Narrow/Wide/Max page width setting controls the overall content column, and individual elements (tables, images) can be stretched beyond that container through the element toolbar; that's what Kris described so well above.

If you ever want more granular control over how content is structured across a page, not just stretching individual elements, but defining full visual sections, backgrounds, and multi-column layouts without fighting the column constraint .. a dedicated formatting app is worth exploring.

AURA Content Formatting Macros is designed for exactly this kind of use case:

  • Background Content macro — define full-width sections with custom background colors or images, breaking out of the narrow column entirely
  • Hero Section — visually distinct headers and banners that span the full page width
  • Tabs and Cards — organise dense content into structured, navigable layouts
  • Multi-column layouts — place content side-by-side in a way the native editor doesn't support
  • Live Embeds (Figma, Miro, Google Sheets) — embed external tools, and they stretch naturally inside Aura layouts
  • Available on both Confluence Cloud and Data Center

You can learn more at aure-apps.

Just in full disclosure: I work at Seibert Group, the team behind the Aura Apps. Hope this helps!
