What will be the availability of following plugins in cloud?

Sourav Mallick August 11, 2023

Below are some of plugins currently available in on-premise (server) confluence instance (as captured in Manage Apps) and we would be going for cloud migration:

  1. Atlassian Troubleshooting and Support Tools
  2. Atlassian Universal Plugin Manager Plugin
  3. Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant
  4. Team Calendars
  5. Analytics for Confluence - Plugin
  6. Confluence Mobile Plugin
  7. Confluence Source Editor
  8. Confluence Unknown Attachment Reconciliation Plugin

While assessing applications using Cloud Migration Assistant, it did not capture the first 6 plugins.

For the last 2 plugins it is states that they are not macro based apps, does not appear on any pages and also cannot display user views of macros.

So wanted to clarify on their availability on cloud and regarding migration of data for the respective plugins.

Here are few questions that we wanted to clarify:

  1. Will these be part of cloud functionality itself and we need not install extra plugin?
  2. How the data corresponding to the existing plugin get migrated to cloud? Will CMA handle migration of data or any alternate process is to be done?
  3. Is there in change in functionality in cloud w.r.t. the one in server?
  4. How to find the usage of these plugins (used in pages, no. of users (for last 30 days))?

Hi Sourav,

The short answer is that you don't need to worry about them - Cloud handles all of them in its own way.

Specifically

  • Atlassian Troubleshooting and Support Tools
    • Built into Cloud
  • Atlassian Universal Plugin Manager Plugin
    • Not needed, Cloud does apps a different way
  • Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant
    • Once you've migrated, you don't need this
  • Team Calendars
    • Available to Cloud Premium subscribers
  • Analytics for Confluence - Plugin
    • Built into Cloud
  • Confluence Mobile Plugin
    • (sort of) built into Cloud
  • Confluence Source Editor
    • Cloud's storage format is very different to server now, there's no real equivalent, but you won't lose any data, this is a function only
  • Confluence Unknown Attachment Reconciliation Plugin
    • Handled automatically in Cloud

So

>Will these be part of cloud functionality itself and we need not install extra plugin?

Mostly, but you won't need any new apps

>How the data corresponding to the existing plugin get migrated to cloud?

They all work off content and config, there's not really any data to migrate, and where there is, it's irrelevant to Cloud

>Is there in change in functionality in cloud w.r.t. the one in server?

Yes, Cloud is totally different software to Server

>How to find the usage of these plugins (used in pages, no. of users (for last 30 days))?

You can't, unless you're willing to spend weeks doing log analysis (assuming you've got enough logging enabled).  And the usage information is useless to you for all of these apps, it will tell you nothing about how to migrate or what you might want to add to Cloud.
